Claude text and file checks

Claude watermark remover: what you can check locally

Watermark Tidy can inspect text copied from Claude for supported invisible Unicode and inspect Claude PNG/JPEG files for supported C2PA metadata. Unicode findings are preserved unless you explicitly select them for a cleaned copy. The checker reports Anthropic's embedded text watermark separately as “Not tested.”

Can you remove a Claude watermark?

It depends on which mark you mean. Anthropic documents two separate systems: an imperceptible watermark embedded in supported model text, and signed C2PA provenance metadata attached to supported files. Hidden Unicode is a third, separate category that may appear in copied text but does not identify its source.

This browser tool can remove supported Unicode characters and supported embedded C2PA structures from a separate copy. Anthropic says technical details for detecting its text watermark are still forthcoming. Anthropic's public documentation does not yet provide a detector independent tools can use to prove that a rewrite removed the mark.

Claude watermarks in August 2026: what Anthropic announced

Anthropic says Claude models launched in the EU on or after August 2, 2026 support machine-readable marking at launch. It describes coverage across supported models in Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Tag, and the Claude Platform API wherever those products are offered. Earlier models are still being brought into the rollout.

Text receives the embedded mark, while supported file outputs can receive signed C2PA provenance metadata. Coverage can vary by model, product, feature, and file type. A missing mark therefore does not prove that content did not pass through Claude.

Claude text watermarks and file metadata are different

ContentDocumented markWhat this tool can do
Claude text Embedded at the model level and carried with copied text Shows “Not tested” until Anthropic publishes a compatible detector
Copied text May also contain ordinary invisible Unicode from many sources Report and remove supported code points locally
Claude PNG/JPEG Signed C2PA provenance metadata where supported Find and remove supported embedded structures
Claude SVG Signed provenance metadata where supported Not supported by this tool

What the result can establish

QuestionAnswerEvidence

Local checks versus rewrite-based removers

Some Claude watermark remover sites send text to a server-side model and paraphrase the wording. Anthropic lists heavy editing, paraphrasing, translation, and mixing as reasons a supported mark may no longer be detectable. That does not make an unverified rewrite a confirmed removal, especially while the official detector details remain unpublished.

ApproachChangesPrivacyVerifiable result
Local Unicode cleaning Only reviewed characters No upload Exact characters can be re-checked
AI rewrite Words, sentence structure, and possibly tone Usually sent to an API No official verify loop is currently public
Targeted C2PA removal Supported metadata containers only No upload The cleaned container can be re-checked

Watermark Tidy does not paraphrase, humanize, or replace visible punctuation. Your wording stays intact unless a supported invisible character itself affects rendering.

How to check Claude text safely

  1. Keep the original. Paste a copy so you can compare every change.
  2. Run the Unicode check. Review character names, code points, counts, and positions.
  3. Check the context. Joiners, direction controls, variation selectors, and spaces can be legitimate.
  4. Select what to clean. Nothing is selected by default; choose only supported character types you have reviewed.
  5. Create a cleaned copy. Proofread and re-check the output. Claude's embedded watermark remains “Not tested.”

Claude watermark remover FAQ

Does this remove Claude's embedded text watermark?

No. This tool can remove supported invisible Unicode characters, but Anthropic describes Claude's embedded text watermark as part of the text itself. Anthropic has not yet published the technical detector details needed to verify that mark or its removal.

Can this find hidden characters in text copied from Claude?

Yes. The local text checker reports supported invisible Unicode by character name, code point, count, and position. A match does not prove that Claude inserted it.

Can this remove Claude C2PA metadata?

It can identify and remove supported embedded C2PA structures from PNG and JPEG files without recompressing their image data. It does not support SVG or validate signatures, certificates, trust chains, or provenance claims.

Is Claude text uploaded or rewritten?

No. Text and image checks run in your browser. The application has no upload endpoint and does not paraphrase, humanize, or rewrite text.

Is Watermark Tidy affiliated with Anthropic?

No. Watermark Tidy is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic.
